About Get Teleprompter Online
A small team making one thing well: a free, fast, browser-based teleprompter that works on any device with nothing to install.
Get Teleprompter Online is an independent, browser-based teleprompter. It exists for a simple reason: reading to camera is hard without a cue, and most teleprompter software is clunky, expensive, or both. We built the tool we wanted for our own videos and live reads — then kept building it as people started using it.
What we make
One page, one job. Paste a script or import one from a .txt or .md file, set your reading pace, and read. Everything a working teleprompter needs is there — WPM pacing, horizontal and vertical mirror for real rigs, focus guides, pauses, countdown, fit-to-time, and a remote control for a second screen — and everything that gets in the way is not.
It runs in any modern browser, on a phone or a laptop. Scripts and settings are saved in your browser's local storage. The script text stays on your device unless you choose to share it yourself; Remote Control can send limited playback state and script-derived cues between paired devices.
What the prompter actually does
So there are no surprises, here is the honest, complete picture of what is in the tool today.
- Pacing from 50 to 400 words per minute, adjustable live while you play, with a countdown and a fit-to-time assistant that tells you whether your script matches the slot you are aiming for.
- Mirror H and mirror V. Horizontal flips the text for beam-splitter glass; vertical flips it for overhead and presidential rigs. If a reflection reads backwards, that is the switch you want.
- Focus guides — arrows, a line, dashes, a dot, ruler ticks, a band, a glow, or corner brackets — so your eyes land in the same place every take.
- Inline formatting markers for bold, italic, underline and highlight, plus chapter headings, pauses, mid-script speed changes, audible beep cues, and stage directions.
- A remote control for a second screen. Your phone becomes the controller over a WebRTC connection — scan a QR code, open a link, or type a six-character code. A third-party signalling service introduces the devices, and a TURN relay may be used when a direct connection is unavailable. No account is required.
- Voice follow. Switch on voice follow and the script holds while you are quiet and moves on when you speak. Detection runs in your browser on live mic levels, adjustable from forgiving to sensitive, and nothing is recorded or sent anywhere. If the mic is unavailable, the script simply scrolls as normal.
- An optional camera in the prompter. In fullscreen you can put your own camera behind the text, full-bleed with a dimming scrim, or shrink it to a corner picture-in-picture. Mirror it, dim it, or pick a different camera. The feed is never uploaded, and it is released the moment you turn it off, leave fullscreen, or close the tab.
- An installable app. Add it to your home screen or desktop and it opens in its own window and keeps working offline.
What it deliberately does not do
Plenty of teleprompter apps advertise a long feature list. Here is ours, stated plainly, so you do not buy into something that is not there:
- No accounts and no cloud library. There is nothing to sign up for, and this site does not store your scripts in an account database.
- No subscription and no premium tier. Every feature above is free, and the prompt stays free.
- No recording built in. The prompter is a cue, not a recorder — you read to your own camera app or screen recorder, so footage is captured by software you already control. Nothing here is ever uploaded. Your camera app still works exactly as before.
- No script library. The editor holds one script at a time, and a share link replaces it when you open one. If you work across many scripts, keep them in your own notes and paste.
- No file export. You can bring a script in from a .txt or .md file — it is read in your browser and replaces the current script, exactly like a share link. Getting it back out again is copy and paste: your script is plain text, so there is no proprietary format to get locked into.
How it works under the hood
The whole tool is static web pages. Your script and every setting live in your browser's local storage on your own device; the script text is not uploaded by the app. A share link is the one deliberate exception, and it only travels when you choose to share one.
Because it is an installable web app, a service worker caches the shell after your first visit. That is what lets it launch instantly and keep working with no connection at all. Remote Control uses WebRTC for device-to-device data, with a third-party signalling service and a possible TURN relay when a direct connection is unavailable; the relay may process connection metadata, not a stored copy of your script.
Who it is for
People filming their own video: creators, streamers, podcast hosts, course creators, and anyone who records a spoken piece and wants to read it straight to the lens. Also people who present, rehearse, or teach and just need the text moving at the right speed at the right size. And studios with a real glass rig, who need the mirror flip and focus guides to line up.
Who is behind it
We are a small independent team of creators and builders who use the prompter ourselves for video and presentations. We answer every message and fix bugs fast — contact us by email at contact@getteleprompteronline.com if something is off, or with ideas for what the prompter should do next.
Our principles
- Privacy by default. Scripts stay on your device unless you choose to share one — a shared link travels with the script by design. Remote Control sends only limited playback state and script-derived cues, not the full script.
- The prompt stays free. Ads on our pages keep it running for everyone.
- Open standards. Your script is plain text, and plain text works everywhere — paste anything from notes, documents, or captions and it reads fine. No proprietary format to learn, import, export, or get locked into.
- Honest tooling. If a feature is missing or a flow feels wrong, we fix the real problem rather than hiding it behind options.
Getting in touch
The fastest way to reach us is email at contact@getteleprompteronline.com. Bug reports are genuinely useful — if something behaves oddly, tell us what you expected, what happened, and which device and browser you were on, and we will take a look. Feature requests are read too, and the reason some things are missing is usually that a simpler version shipped first and the rest has not caught up yet.
